Description

Product description for Trapet Alsace Riesling Schoenenbourg Grand Cru 2017 (bio)

Christina Hilker: Its palate is supple and juicy, the fruit youthfully enveloped in a delicate sweetness, buffered by minerality and subtle tannins. This is where you can clearly see that this wine is still in its infancy and possesses wonderful development and aging potential. Impatient connoisseurs can already enjoy it now, after sufficient aeration, with dishes with fruity and spicy notes. Those with the leisure and time should buy the 2016 wine right now and store it in the cellar for 2017.

Information on the vineyard

Located north of Riquewihr, the vineyard runs along the rather steep south and southeast flanks of the Schoenenbourg hill at an altitude of 265 to 380 meters. It extends over an area of 53.4 hectares on a water-rich subsoil of Keuper, marl, dolomite, and gypsum, rich in humus and covered with fine layers of Quaternary gravel, Vosges sandstone, and shell limestone, as well as marly limestone.

Colour

Light golden yellow.

Nose

The 2017 Schoenenbourg Riesling Grand Cru is elegant and mineral; with some contact with oxygen, apple peel and candied lemon peel emerge alongside stony notes and a hint of ripeness. After a longer opening, notes of vineyard peach, apple compote, fragrant blossoms, and honey characterize its aroma.

Wine Advocate

Score: 92+

The 2017 Schoenenbourg Riesling offers a deep, intense and rich, somewhat lactic bouquet of ripe and concentrated fruits. On the palate, this is a rich and pretty round but also vital, vibrantly mineral and elegant Schoenenbourg with a long, crystalline and saline finish with firm tannins. Still far too young to reveal its real character, this is a Riesling to be served in about a decade. 14% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023.
