Description
Product description for Thomas Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes AOC 2023
Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes comes from the eponymous 1er Cru Climat. Les Chenevottes is located on the northern side of Chassagne, on a gentle hill between Les Macherelles and the Saint-Aubin district. The name is a diminutive of Chanvre, meaning hemp, which was formerly cultivated there. The clay soil contains a high proportion of iron oxide, which is why parts of the 10.99 hectares are planted with Pinot Noir. Morey’s Les Chenevottes comes from approximately 50% of the Les Bondues vineyard site, which is part of Les Chenevottes, approximately 25% from the Les Combes vineyard site, which is also located there, and 25% from the surrounding Chenevottes vineyard site. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrels and tanks. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally, and the wine remains on its lees without any bâtonnage. The new wood content is around 20%. Sulfurization only takes place in the last six months in the barrel, and this is done several times with minimal doses, so that the wine never exceeds 35 mg/l overall.
Colour
Medium straw yellow with a distinct green component.
Nose
Thomas Morey’s Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 2023 is a finely crafted, precise, and at the same time attractively sensual 1er Cru, appearing bright and citrusy with hints of lemon oil as well as lemon and lime peel. Added to this is a creamy, white-fleshed fruit that lies slightly behind, mingling with poached pear and cardamom. A fine reduction lies above.
Palate
On the palate, the Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes is juicy and once again very engaging, with its light, sensual creaminess and a hint of phenolic notes. The wine is present in its juiciness, zesty and citrusy in its acidity. On the finish, this 1er Cru offers good energy and tension, as well as mouthwatering hints of salted lemon.
