Les Tosses is just as much a “Vi d’altura” as Les Manyes. The Carignan vines are planted at an altitude of 650 meters. The subsoil is the black slate typical of the Priorat region – also known as “licorella.” Today, aging only takes place for three months in Stockinger foudres, so wood plays a very minor role. In the 2018 vintage, 2006 bottles were filled.

Nose

The Carignan from the Les Tosses vineyard is based on blue and dark fruits with a delicate spice. Depending on your sensory predisposition, you can detect blueberries, blackcurrant, blackberry, and sweet cherries. Ethereal nuances of Mediterranean herbs, but especially eucalyptus and mint, underline the dark fruit with cool and invigorating accents. The stony, cold characteristics of the slate soil are also clearly perceptible. Floral aromas of violets and pansies lend it an extra portion of shine and glory.

Palate

On the palate, it manages to combine all these dark notes in pure elegance. Pure minerality prevails in the mouth. This makes it appear silky and playful. No austerity, but an absolutely perfect balance of fruit, acidity, and tactile attributes. Only a delicate tannin, but plenty of punch and a fine extract sweetness clearly characterize the mouthfeel. The aromas of the nose are clearly evident in the finish in a similar form and with alternating intensity. Les Tosses is a very mature wine, but one that can never shake off the proverbial “mischievous streak.”
