Wine Information

Rioja’s true treasure is its white wines. In recent years, they have experienced a renaissance – thanks to wines as characterful and exceptional as the Tentenublo Blanco. Winemaker Roberto Olivan makes it from the indigenous white wine varieties Viura, Calagraño, Malvasia Riojana, and Garnacha Blanca. The vines are between 45 and 65 years old and are planted in blends – a mix of grape varieties within a single vineyard, as is very common in the older vineyards of the Basque Rioja Alavesa. The grapes are fermented and aged on the lees for eight months in a combination of wooden barrels and concrete tanks.

Nose

The bouquet offers a bouquet of fresh and dried herbs. The nose is stimulating, but not overly exuberant or over-the-top; rather, it’s very well balanced and underscored by a stony minerality.

Palate

On the palate, the Tentenublo Blanco 2022 develops plenty of mineral grip and displays impressive clarity, freshness, and juiciness. The subtle tannins indicate some skin contact during fermentation. The salty finish further contributes to the complexity and is totally uplifting. This white wine exemplifies the new Spain, where minerality, herbal tartness, and saltiness take center stage rather than fruitiness. At the same time, it’s wonderfully drinkable and a versatile food companion. Simply magnificent!
