Wine Information
The BAM! is a cuvée of rare varieties: 27% Pinot Blanc, 27% Arbanne, and 46% Petit Meslier. The B stands for Blanc in Pinot Blanc, the A for Arbanne, and the M for Meslier. The vines are planted in the Lieu-dit Four à Chaux-Sables, not far from the winery in Œuilly, on limestone dating back to the Lutetian (Paleogene) period. Above this, there is quartz sand. The grapes come from mass selections from 2003. The harvest took place on September 26, 2012. This was followed by slow pressing by gravity, followed by spontaneous fermentation, and then six months on the lees in Burgundy pièces. No malolactic fermentation took place. During the blend, reserve wines from a Réserve Perpétuelle, a solera from this vineyard, which began in 2007, were added. Bottling took place on April 27, 2013, and disgorged on June 3, 2023, with—as always—0 g of dosage. 900 bottles were produced.
Color
Light golden yellow with fine perlage.
Nose
Tarlant’s cuvée of Pinot Blanc, Arbanne, and Petit Meslier is a fragrant and brightly fruity wine that appears clear, precise, and straightforward on the nose, with a youthful radiance. It is reminiscent of lemon juice and zest, a hint of mandarin orange and lime, but also of the delicate sweetness of lemon curd and lemon meringue. Added to this are notes of limestone and chalk, white flowers, some stone fruit, and herbs.
Palate
The impressive precision continues on the palate. As if on runners of limestone, the BAM! initially glides across the palate, appearing urgently fresh and crystalline with an electrifying acidity and minerality. With a little warmth, a fine creaminess emerges in the champagne and also the first hints of autolysis notes in the form of puff pastry, thinly spread with vanilla cream, while maintaining all its precision at every moment.
