Description
Product description for Schätzel Riesling Pettenthal Kabinett Grosse Lage, Versteigerung-Wein 2016 Christoph Raffelt: What is a trademark of Schätzel’s wines is evident in all its depth in the auction wine. This is not a wine to sniff, but a structured and textured wine of great clarity and precision. The Pettenthal Kabinett strikes a balance between playful lightness and great seriousness. It is powerful and juicy, superficially bright in its stone fruit and citrus nuances, but then dark and mysterious in its earthy minerality. The acidity is fine and balances the sweetness; the wine is elegant, fine, and endowed with a typical salty note, which, together with the lively acidity, evokes a sense of minerality. It is still very young and actually intended to disappear into the cellar for a few years.
Colour
light platinum yellow
Nose
If you think of Kabinetts from the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer when you think of auction wines, you’re almost always right. But Rheinhessen Kabinetts also sometimes come under the hammer. This Pettenthal Kabinett from Kai Schätzel is, of course, fundamentally different from the Mosel ones in terms of its aroma, and, to be honest, from anything else you’d find in Kabinetts on the Rhine. The aroma is striking and unique, with distinct apple and apple cider, citrus fruits, a hint of flint, and a hint of gasoline, moist rock flour, and yeast.
