Description
Product description for Scarbolo Pinot Grigio “Mepari” DOC 2021
Wine Information
The grapes come from the Pozzut vineyard, a vineyard planted on alluvial deposits of dolomitic limestone origin. The eastern part is the winery’s oldest Pinot Grigio plot; the soil is clayey, with abundant gravel and limestone inclusions; it extends over 2.9 hectares (the grapes for this wine are harvested exclusively from the oldest 1.4 hectares) with an average age of 26 years.
Vineyard Information
The grapes were harvested by hand, in baskets, during the earliest and coolest morning hours of September 10 and 11. After destemming and crushing, the grapes were immediately pressed. No maceration, extraction by punching the must. Alcoholic fermentation took place with the help of commercial yeasts at a controlled temperature, beginning in a stainless steel tank and ending in a 20-hl barrel. The wine is unfiltered and has not undergone malolactic fermentation. The Mepari aged for 22 months on its fine lees, first in fermentation barrels and then in stainless steel tanks. Bâtonnage (lees stirring) took place during the first three months, followed by 10 months in the bottle until release.
Colour
Light golden yellow, delicately cloudy with green reflections.
Nose
The 2021 Nepari reveals beautiful, juicy fruit reminiscent of ripe apples, honeydew melon, star fruit, papaya, and a hint of banana. Upon exposure to oxygen, this exceptional Pinot Grigio reveals honey, white nougat, a hint of caramel, tobacco box, café au lait, wheat, and freshly baked baguette with salted butter.
Palate
On the tongue, the ripe and exotic fruit notes of the nose combine with a superbly stimulating bitter note reminiscent of grapefruit and grapefruit zest. Salty; sweet, even umami is its credo. A wine that shines with incredible complexity and expression, lingering in a long finish. Aromatic and spicy dishes love its accompaniment!

Vinous
Score: 93
Delicate and lifted in the glass, the 2021 Pinot Grigio Mepari blossoms with a dusting of savory spice, giving way to dried flowers and flinty stone. This is a model of purity with ripe nectarine and peach mingling over a core of saline minerals. Zesty acidity adds a reverberation of tension. The 2021 tapers off crisp and clean, leaving a steely freshness and salty sensation that forces the mouth to salivate. While enjoyable today for its lively personality, the Mepari will excel through medium-term cellaring. This is sourced from Scarbolo’s oldest vines, planted in silt and limestone soils.
