Information about the wine

The Attis winery in the Galician Rias Baixas region has founded the Sangarida wine project in the northern Spanish DO Bierzo region. Only 2,000 bottles of the single-vineyard La Guiana 2021, made from the pure Godello white wine grape, are available. The vineyard is located at an altitude of 600 meters and has clay soils. In the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and fermented spontaneously. The wine is aged for 12 months on the fine lees in a combination of new and used 228- and 500-liter oak and acacia barrels. The Godello grape variety is considered the “Spanish Chardonnay” because it tolerates aging in wooden barrels well and thus gains complexity. The Sangarida La Guiana 2021 is an excellent example of this.

La Guiana 2021 has a fresh and attractive nose with aromas of yellow apple and red grapefruit. A peppery note and a hint of biscuit contribute to the complexity. Overall, the bouquet is expressive and highly intense.

Palate

The wonderful balance between lively acidity and an elegant, waxy texture makes La Guiana 2021 a particularly attractive wine on the palate. The wine is taut and straightforward, yet full-bodied and creamy. The pronounced minerality gives it depth and complexity. This is complemented by spicy and smoky notes on the long finish. Overall, La Guiana impressively demonstrates the potential of the Godello grape variety for distinctive, high-quality white wines.
