Description

Product description for Romanesca Moulin-à-Vent “Champ de Cour” AOC 2020

Wine Information

The Champ de Cour vineyard in Moulin-à-Vent covers 31 hectares, of which the Chastels own 1.2 hectares. The site is located southeast of the village center on deep, weathered granite and on Piedmont, an old alluvial alluvial deposit. The Gamay noir à jus blanc, as it is fully known—there is also a dyed-through-dyer’s Gamay—is around 50 years old and yields between 25 and 35 hl/ha. After hand-picking and sorting, whole bunches were used. Undamaged berries were placed at the bottom of the concrete cuboid, and crushed ones were placed on top, allowing the Gamay to undergo a semi-carbonic maceration. The wine was then aged for one year in cement tanks.

Colour

Cloudy, intense violet, colour-dense right to the rim.

Nose

The seductive aroma is reminiscent of a whole basket of red and dark fruits such as sour cherries, raspberries, blackberries, plums, and pomegranate. This aroma is finely chiseled and permeated by orange zest, licorice, Assam tea, and violet pastilles. One is tempted to sink into its beguiling scent.

Palate

Juicy, with a spicy note, and beautifully concise, the 2020 Moulin-à-Vent Champ de Cour presents itself on the tongue as a truly profound Beaujolais that sets standards. With its fleshy, powerful structure characterized by spices and pepper, it is the perfect accompaniment to hearty stews, game, and tangy cheeses.

Wine Advocate

Score: 91+

The 2020 Moulin-à-Vent Champ de Cour unwinds in the glass with aromas of licorice, mulberries, smoke and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, ample and concentrated, it’s a deep, serious, somewhat compact wine that, much like its 2019 predecessor, will reward a bit of bottle age.
