Info

Iglesia Vella is Catalan and means “old church.” The vineyard is therefore located near the old church. The site is based on hard slate rock, which is clearly reflected in the texture and structure of the wine. 100% Grenache Gris, planted in 1954.

Colour

Pale lemon yellow with light reflections.

Nose

The first nose catapults you directly to the Mediterranean. You can’t travel faster or more cheaply—at least not when reveling in memories and fantasies. Iglesia Vella directly demonstrates the strengths of the Mediterranean world of aromas. Ethereal pine groves and cypresses. Barren soils that meet a warm environment. A hint of dust, limestone, and chalk. The garrigue is omnipresent. Rosemary, thyme, and lavender slowly alternate one after the other. A delicate burst of yellow fruit unfolds, oscillating between mirabelle plum, kaffir lime, and butternut squash. A touch of almond blossom and chopped nuts add the finishing touch.

Palate

The first sip immediately reveals its next great strength. Proper vineyard management and handling of ripe grapes can produce radically racy and elegant wines, even in a hot environment. The cooling winds also leave their mark. Its mineral film settles directly on the surface of the teeth. Its stony character grabs the fruit and Mediterranean spice by the scruff of the neck and carries them across the tongue for minutes. Challenging, inspiring, and impressive all at once. The delicate yellow fruit sprouts again in the aftertaste. But the Mediterranean herbs immediately build up again and assert themselves.
