Description
Product description for Rémi Jobard Monthelie 1er Cru Les Vignes-Rondes AOC 2022 (bio)
Rémi Jobard is a recognized new schooler in Meursault. For around 30 years, he has used exclusively organic fertilization, and in 2008, he obtained organic certification. Jobard’s guiding principle is the calcareous soils of Meursault, which he seeks to bring out through careful aging. Instead of small 228-liter barriques, Jobard uses 600-liter Stockinger barrels. The wood isn’t used for its own sake, but rather for the slow oxygen exchange. This aging results in crystalline wines with profound minerality and a delicate texture. The 1er Cru Vignes-Rondes is a comparatively cool site located above the village of Monthelie in the center of the slope on typical limestone-clay soils. The wine was produced using 100% whole bunch grapes and aged for one year in barrels before being transferred to stainless steel tanks.
Colour
Transparent ruby red with purple reflections.
Nose
The 2022 Les Vignes-Rondes Monthelie 1er Cru from Rémi Jobard appears sinewy and taut. The ripe red fruit is rich in extract yet cool, with firm connective tissue and an athletic nature. The red fruit is always on the acidic side: sour cherry instead of Amarena, red currant instead of cassis, raspberry instead of blackberry. Added to this are tart notes such as blackberry leaf and currant leaves, along with mild spices and floral escapades reminiscent of hollyhocks, violets, and a touch of lavender.
Palate
The impressions of the nose continue on the palate. Silky and slinky, the nectar flows effortlessly into the greedy throat. Fueled by fresh yet ripe acidity and framed by a refreshingly tart tannin corset that makes it smacking, this wine has a pace that’s almost dizzying. Tailor-made, perfectly formed, with the best manners and a starched pocket square, this Pinot always cuts a fine figure and has the perfect balance between high vibration and profound bass.
