Description
Product description for Rémi Jobard Bourgogne Aligoté “En Buzigny” Vieilles Vignes AOC 2020 (bio)
Late Release. Rémi Jobard is a recognized new schooler in Meursault. For around 30 years, the vineyards have been exclusively organically fertilized, and in 2008, certified organic farming followed. Jobard’s guiding principle is the chalky soils of Meursault, which he seeks to bring out through careful aging. Instead of small 228-liter barriques, Jobard uses 600-liter Stockinger barrels. The wood isn’t used for its own sake, but rather for the slow oxygen exchange. This aging results in crystalline, polished wines with profound minerality and a delicate texture. Jobard has only recently begun vinifying Aligoté himself. Although his father bought the Aligoté vineyards, he always sold the grapes to a négociant. The Aligoté from the En Buzigny plot comes from the oldest plots on the estate, aged between 50 and 70 years; the Late Release matured for two additional years in Jobard’s cellar.
Colour
Light straw yellow with green reflections.
Nose
Ripe, crumbly yellow apple, plump yellow pears, and some quince peel open the performance in a brightly lit arena. Sweet cream butter, culinary herbs such as chervil and tarragon, some buttered yeast pastry, along with slightly tart notes reminiscent of ground elder and sorrel. A calm, relaxed nose without any great hustle and bustle, a big glass order!
Palate
The 2020 En Buzigny Bourgogne Aligoté Vieilles Vignes Late Release from Rémi Jobard presents itself on the palate with a noble attitude. A tailored tailcoat, perfectly parted, manicured fingers, and a silver cane handle – everything is in the right place. Powerful with a low-frequency, pulsating bass, it rumbles with a cohesive appearance and distinctive bitter notes. Above this are subtle notes of anise, chervil, or fennel green, carried by the phenolics of green apple peel. Invigoratingly bitter with enormous concentration and a delicately fruity finish. The Porsche among Aligotés.
