Colour

Muted cherry red, almost colour-dense to the rim.

Nose

The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino presents itself with captivating and sweet aromas on the nose. Fruity notes of blackberries, cassis, and black cherries combine with fine dark chocolate and wild herbs such as thyme and rosemary. Floral scents of rose petals and violets give it a feminine touch. Its minerality and depth are unmistakable even on the nose.

Palate

On the palate, it captivates with its beautiful delicacy and elegance. The sweet fruit aromas and chocolate character are given a stimulating touch by the pronounced minerality, the animating acidity, and the silky tannin structure. A wine that glides over the tongue like velvet and silk, but which will improve even further with some cellar aging. It presents itself particularly well after two days of opening. Decant if possible.

Crushed rocks, wild strawberries and dusty dried flowers form a darkly alluring bouquet as the 2020 Rosso di Montalcino opens in the glass. This is elegant and feminine in style, with pillowy soft textures and ripe red fruits as chalky tannins form toward the close. The 2020 tapers off grippy, yet with a bump of residual acids. Orange notes maintain a lovely freshness. The Rosso of Pian dell’Orino continues to be one of the top performers year after year.
