Description
Product description for Peter Jakob Kühn Riesling Jacobus trocken 2023 (bio)
Wine Information
The Jacobus is a reminiscence of the founding father Jacobus, who established the Kühn dynasty through his marriage in Oestrich in 1704. The Riesling comes from the Rheingau towns of Oestrich, Winkel, and Hallgarten and was 100% hand-picked. After a gentle whole-bunch pressing over several hours, spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts took place. The natural composition of the must was not altered. With an alcohol content of 12%, 3.1 g/l residual sugar, and 6.9 g/l acidity, the wine was aged on the full lees for ten months until the end of August 2024 in large wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks.
Colour
Medium straw yellow
Nose
The aroma of the wine is bright and juicy. It’s reminiscent of apples, pears, and mirabelle plums with a hint of cream and cotton candy, without really giving off a sugary impression. Rather, it’s the cottony, airy quality that makes an impression here, along with a touch of hay and white blossoms.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is juicy and silky, light and lively, with a smooth texture and a grippy acidity that offers good tension and ensures a pleasant drinking flow. If you let the Jacobus sit on the palate longer, the apple and pear rediscover themselves, along with more peach and apricot, salty notes, and a herbal hint. The wine is grippy, has plenty of drive, and impressive energy and minerality. A strong estate wine!

The 2023 Riesling trocken Jacobus is pure, intense and mineral on the nose that is reminiscent of lemon zest, citrus herbs and verbena intertwined with hints of white peaches, peppermint notes and crushed stones. Round and elegant on the palate, this is a light yet textured dry Riesling with fine, ripe acidity and fleshy fruit with a stimulating saline and gently grippy finish. This is medium-bodied and filigreed yet with substance and character. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

The 2023 Riesling Jacobus was harvested from sites across Oestrich, Winkel and Hallgarten. A lovely sense of hay and hayflower blends with supple yeastiness on the nose. The palate is light, smooth and zesty, with a lovely flow, more of that gentle herbal tone and a rather tangy finish. (Bone-dry)
