Product description for Ökonomierat Rebholz Riesling “Ganz Horn” GG 2023 (bio)
Information about the Wine
Most of the vineyards on the edge of the Haardt, at the transition from the Rhine plain to the Palatinate Forest, face east. However, the Siebeldinger vineyard “Im Sonnenschein” is actually located in Sonnenschein, as it is exposed to the south. The vineyard is situated at an elevation of 160 to 250 meters and has a slope of 5 to 20%. The Riesling is grown on the “Siebeldinger Ganshorn” parcel within the “Im Sonnenschein” vineyard. While “Im Sonnenschein” is characterized by ancient Triassic soils (approx. 220 million years old) with shell limestone, this parcel is still young, dating back to the Pleistocene (approx. 1 million years old), and consists primarily of gravel with red sandstone, gravel, and clay. Since 2018, to avoid confusion, the wine has been referred to simply as “Ganz Horn.” The wine was vinified after destemming and a maceration period of approximately 24 hours. After preliminary clarification and natural sedimentation, fermentation took place in stainless steel, followed by six months of ageing on the fine lees.
Colour
Medium straw yellow
Nose
The Riesling Ganz Horn 2023 is noticeably fuller, juicier, more sensual, and softer in aroma than its sibling from the surrounding Im Sonnenschein vineyard. One finds peach, ripe apples with a few peels, grapefruit with peel, white currants, a hint of passion fruit, and greengages combined with herbs and a hint of rock.
Palate
On the palate, the Ganz Horn appears firm and present with a light tannin, a clear acidity, and structure. Indeed, the acidity is surprising after the rather sensual olfactory impression. On the palate, the wine is much more powerful, with pure energy, salinity, flow, vibrant minerality, and a fine texture. A very successful example!

Wine Advocate
Score: 96
From the old vines of the cru that also source the GG and picked at the same time (mid-September) at 110° Oechsle, the 2023 Riesling Auslese Ganz Horn is clear, pure, fresh and savory on the coolish and saline as well as earthy nose that reveals candied fruit aromas. This is an elegant and saline but rich and generous Riesling Auslese with a stimulating saline finish. It is bottled with 130 grams per liter of residual sugar but tastes richer and sweeter than the Gewurztraminer Auslese from the Latt, yet the finish is rejuvenating, savory and fresh. I would therefore cellar this beauty for at least 10 years to reduce the sensation of sugar. The wine will become even better, most of all more delicate and filigreed then. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2025.

The 2023 Riesling Siebeldinger Ganz Horn Grosses Gewächs is exclusively from old vines (around 50 years old) on Triassic sandstone and gravel conglomerate. Reduction and golden Mirabelle fruit unite on the nose, suggesting much ripeness, but the palate pulls it all into immensely zesty focus. A lovely tanginess and pithiness lay on the tongue, making the mouth water even more with a phenolic veil, beautifully racy and taut. (Bone-dry)
