Product description for Nittnaus Anita & Hans Kalk & Schiefer, Cuvée Weiss 2023 (bio)The grapes for this cuvée are carefully harvested by hand and come from various vineyards around Jois, at the northern end of the Leithaberg. Characterized by limestone and slate, the diverse soils lend the wine its characteristic minerality. The 2023 Kalk und Schiefer consists of 65% Weißburgunder, 15% Grüner Veltliner, 15% Welschriesling, and 5% Chardonnay.

Colour

Light straw yellow with green reflections.

Nose

Beneath the delicate reduction, the floating fruit of the slate quickly reveals itself, grounded by chalky minerality. Yellow stone fruit such as small peaches and pome fruit are present, but by no means the aromatic leitmotif. Rather, framed with spice, it speaks of the terroir, the soils, and its origins.

Palate

The 2023 Kalk und Schiefer white from Nittnaus also has a herbal, spicy base on the palate. Excessive fruit is absent here; instead, it refreshes with a lime-based, cool minerality and a slightly saline finish with good grip on the palate. A delightful refresher for any occasion.
