Description

Product description for Nittnaus Anita & Hans Grüner Veltliner Elektra 2022 (bio)

The Elektra comes from an old Veltliner vineyard in Jois called Lindauer. Extremely chalky, this site produces distinctive wines with expressive minerality. Harvested by hand, then traditionally fermented in wooden barrels and aged on the full lees for 12 months.

Colour

Golden yellow with a silky opacity.

Nose

The 2022 Elektra from Nittnaus is a contemporary interpretation of the variety, which is increasingly plagued by heat. The nose oscillates like a kaleidoscope between yeast and piquant fermentation aromas, finely oxidized stone fruit and mild spicy notes such as fermented pepper. Herbally spicy and tart, hops, chervil, and must, then floral notes again. Shimmering and constantly changing.

Palate

The first sip is taut with finely contoured phenolics and an aromatically tart finish. Good grip with animating astringency and a stimulating bitterness, with only the heart notes of the apple, seeds, and peel, instead of rich juice. Wonderfully calm and exciting, this is a Veltliner without a high-gloss polish, instead ranging from silky matte to hammered. An invigoratingly tart tonic with a rapid flow.

Vinous

Score: 89

The 2022 Elektra Weiss is a pure Grüner Veltliner from the Lindauer and Altenberg sites in Jois, both on limestone. There is almost a ripe, juicy blueberry scent in this white wine. The palate has a lovely phenolic touch with beautiful freshness at the core, pulling focus and bundling the energy. This is post-malolactic freshness from a warm year, which is astonishing. The 2022 is rounded but bright, with subtle savoriness on the palate and a lip-smacking finish. (Bone-dry)
