Hidden Treasures is a project by Roland Velich, Moric. Together with partner winemakers from Hungary, he aims to bring Hungary’s treasures back to the world of wine. Velich realized project number 2 north of Lake Balaton together with Kis Tamás from Nagy-Somló. The wine is a cuvée of linden-leaved (Hárslevelü), Furmint, and Welschriesling and was aged in large oak barrels.

Colour

Straw yellow with a silvery rim.

Nose

The nose is almost programmatically reminiscent of linden blossom tea, stone fruits such as apples, pears, and fluffy quinces. Flanked by fresh culinary herbs such as chervil and borage, it has a distinctively saline side reminiscent of wet blackboard chalk and, thanks to its delicate reduction, of flint. Precise, clear, and unpretentious, the nose calls for an upright sip.

Palate

On the palate, the 2021 Hidden Treasures No. 2 Somlo, featuring Kis Tamas and Moric, is taut with a firm bite and a vertical character. With a silky smoothness and piquant spice, the aromatic arc stretches from the first sip to the long finish. The tart phenolic notes nestle against the lively acidity, and the wine’s salty character fuels its austere understatement. Focused, clear, and straightforward, it flows toward its cool finish.
