Description
Anyone who has dealings with Martin Muthenthaler quickly sees that the vintner is not one of the great self-marketers of the wine scene. There are others in the Wachau. Martin is the prototype of the quiet, rather introverted, but thoughtful and inquiring winemaker who prefers to spend his time in the terraces of his vineyards, Bruck and Schön. Despite this, or precisely because of it, he has earned an outstanding reputation. His rise from being the driver of the Domäne Wachau and working as a part-time winegrower at Heurigen to one of the most sought-after organic and biodynamic winegrowers in the Wachau took place within a few years. Along with Nikolaihof and his friend Peter Veyder-Malberg, he is one of the first to have clearly turned away from the then baroque style of Wachau wines to produce clear, precise, fresh, and vibrant Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners.
