Info

The vineyards of Domaine de Marcoux have been farmed organically since 1991. Although Grenache Noir is the predominant grape variety at 80%, the diversity of the soils and complementary grape varieties ensure a harmonious and complex result. From a total of 13 plots and thus highly variable soil types, this cuvée contains not only Grenache but also 10% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah, and 3% Cinsault. The different origins also result in varying degrees of ripeness. Selection is initially carried out manually in the vineyard and later on the sorting table. The grapes are completely destemmed, crushed, and cold macerated. Fermentation is also temperature-controlled, and the pomace cap is macerated daily by “remontage.” The maceration lasts approximately 5 weeks. The wine then matures for 18 months, primarily in cement tanks, with additional time in a few foudres and 350l oak barrels.

Colour

Dark, dense purple with delicate violet reflections and a lightening rim.

Nose

The nose is alive with spice and dark fruit at the same time. Morello cherry, blackberry, blueberry, and a hint of cassis dominate the nose. Its spice is just as deep and dark: juniper berry, colourful pepper in all its facets from red to green to black, bay leaves, and nutmeg. With patience, rosehip and a hint of rooibos can also be discovered. This deep, earthy component is convincing. It exudes hints of roasted coffee and chocolate above 80%. Unusually, but all the more refreshing, mint and kaffir lime leaves appear here.

Palate

On the palate, the fruit is completely open and inviting. It fluctuates between red and black, yet always has a pleasantly warming effect. The fruit is very well balanced with the gripping acidity. The tannins show green accents, which wonderfully provide additional freshness, meatiness, and juiciness. The package closes and immediately invites you to continue drinking. This creates a sappy, bloody character that captivates me.
