Description
Product description for Manincor Castel Campan IGT 2019 (bio)
The 2019 vintage offered a long ripening period on the vines in sunny autumn weather and yielded only a small amount of grapes, which were of exceptional quality. The Castel Campan is a cuvée of 65% Cabernet Franc and 35% Merlot. The Merlot grows in the Tatzenschrot vineyard on Manincor, a southeast-facing slope at 250 meters above sea level. It is planted with the oldest Merlot vines and is one of the hottest locations in South Tyrol. The Cabernet Franc comes from Seehorf, where it develops its dark-fruity power on loamy limestone gravel. The must fermentation took place spontaneously in a large wooden vat and lasted four weeks before it aged for 20 months in half-new barriques.
Colour
Dark purple with violet reflections and a black core.
Nose
The 2019 Castel Campan from Manincor has an impenetrably dark aroma and needs some air before its initially monolithic nose fragments into individual aromas. Red and black fruits such as cherries, blackberries, mulberries, and plums sparkle beneath a black blanket of dark Criollo chocolate, their juicy fruitiness tempered by dark spices such as black pepper, cardamom, and dark tobacco.
Palate
Super juicy with full fruit, it is also driven on the palate by ripe, dark fruit of cherries, blackberries, and plum jam. Contoured by youthful, leafy tannins, it has a grippy texture and is carried by a broad and well-integrated acidity. Plush, dark fruity with a velvety nature, it combines uncomplicated drinking pleasure with serious craftsmanship.

Wine Advocate
Score: 92
The Manincor 2019 Castel Campan is an organic and biodynamic blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. The wine opens to a dark color with aromas of blackberry, plum, spice, tar and cured tobacco. On the Alto Adige scale, this is a full-bodied red with a momentary point of freshness and leanness on the mid-palate to remind you of its high elevation and mountainous roots. Exactly 5,960 bottles were made.

Score: 93
The 2019 Castel Campan, a blend of 65% Cabernet Franc and 35% Merlot, is darkly alluring, with a rosehip and lavender bouquet giving way to crushed raspberry and a dusting of exotic spice. It floods the palate with silky textures and depths of dark red fruit underscored by saline mineral tones. A web of fine tannins collects toward the close. The 2019 finishes amazingly fresh yet structured and long, with peppery inner florals and wild blueberry hints. There is simply so much going on in this glass, but cellaring is recommended to bring all of the Castel Campan’s components into focus.
