Wine Information

This Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine, made from the Melon de Bourgogne variety, comes from a vineyard planted in 1998 in the village of La Chapelle Heulin. The soil is dominated by slate. Le Verger is the cadastral name of the vineyard plot, meaning “orchard,” and was the inspiration for the label, which depicts the seduction of Adam by Eve in the Garden of Eden. The hand-harvested grapes were pressed in a pneumatic press, with the force and duration of pressing adjusted to the respective vintage. This was followed by spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, followed by fermentation and aging on the lees in underground, glass-lined cement vats for seven months.

Nose

This Muscadet has a subtle aroma, which is typical for this grape variety. It smells slightly grassy with a flint note of salted lemon and its zest, as well as a bunch of freshly picked garden herbs.

Palate

On the palate, Le Verger is a classic Muscadet. At first, it seems almost minimalist, with bright, clear fruit. The Melon de Bourgogne grape variety combines citrus aromas with those of green stone fruit. The lees provide a certain creaminess and silkiness on the palate. In the opening moments, the acidity is barely present. But towards the finish, it increases, and the wine suddenly becomes piquant, slightly smoky, and iodine-flavoured, with a sea breeze almost in the wine. It is a Muscadet with freshness, clarity, and precision.
