Wine Information

La Bonnode borders the La Combe Desroches vineyard and covers two hectares at an altitude of 250 meters, facing east at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson. The 35-year-old vines are mostly surrounded by old bushes. The soils of limestone marl and light clay are ideal for Chardonnay. The harvest took place from September 23 to 24, 2021. The Chardonnay was whole-bunch pressed and fermented spontaneously. It then aged for 17 months in foudres and 228-liter pièces. Malolactic fermentation followed. The total sulphur content is 24 mg/l, and the pH is 3.19.

Light golden yellow

Nose

The 2021 La Bonnode Cuvée Zen appears similarly elegant, fresh, and sensual as its siblings, whose sulphur content is slightly higher. Here, too, notes of lemons and oranges combine with spring blossoms and a hint of lime. However, the wine is somewhat silkier and creamier, with hints of lemon curd, garnished with herbs.

Palate

On the palate, La Bonnode Cuvée Zen also appears to stand out with a bit more sensuality and creaminess, while the classic La Bonnode is more strongly characterized by a powerful acidity. Here, an elegant mouthfeel emerges with the bright fruit of lemons, some pineapple, and pear, along with a hint of tannin, and a finish that blends sour drops with fine, ripe yellow fruit sweetness, which is then recaptured by saltiness and acidity.
