Wine Information

La Bonnode borders the La Combe Desroches vineyard and covers two hectares at an altitude of 250 meters, facing east at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson. The 35-year-old vines are mostly surrounded by old bushes. The soils of limestone marl and light clay are ideal for Chardonnay. The harvest took place from September 23 to 24, 2021. The Chardonnay was whole-bunch pressed and fermented spontaneously. It then aged for 17 months in foudres and 228-liter pièces. Malolactic fermentation followed. The total sulphur content is 31 mg/l, and the pH is 3.21.

Nose

The 2021 La Bonnode offers the clarity, brightness, and citrus freshness typical of the La Soufrandière vintage, something rarely achieved in such a pure form in Mâcon in recent years. The nose is elegant with a successful blend of lemons and oranges including their peels, as well as spring meadow blossoms and a hint of verbena. There are also slightly chalky notes.

Palate

On the palate, La Bonnode exerts considerable force from the outset. This is ensured by the virile acidity, which is supported by a distinct minerality. The wine is vibrant, juicy and bright, fresh and clear, even dancing with a mixture of yellow stone fruit, crisp peaches, and plenty of ripe citrus fruit. In the finish, a distinctive saltiness coats the piquant, even sharp, yet pleasant citrus notes on the palate. Strong!
