Information about the Wine

The oldest plots of the estate below the château, with their sandy-loamy soils, produce the top red cuvée Les Cadettes. This is also where La Nerthe’s oldest vines, over 85 years old, grow: Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. After manual harvesting and grape selection, the three varieties are spontaneously fermented together in a large wooden vat. In 2017, the cuvée consisted of 59% Grenache Noir, 31% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre. The maceration lasted three weeks. After malolactic fermentation, part of the wine was aged in barrels, while the rest was aged in new barriques for twelve months.

Colour

Very deep, still youthful ruby red.

Nose

Intense, captivating bouquet with ripe berries and red cherries, candied wild strawberries, maraschino cherries, and raspberries macerated in spirit: aromas concentrated by the heat and dryness of the year, accompanied by notes of milk chocolate and caramel, cloves and cinnamon, smoke, and tobacco.

Palate

Velvety approach with expressive ripe red berry fruit and charming volume. Great intensity and persistence on the palate, plenty of structure and power, bay leaf and pipe tobacco, distinctive yet beautifully encased tannins, and complex spice. Due to the joint vinification of the three varieties and the aging in foudres, the wine already possesses great harmony and finesse despite its concentration, yet at the same time has all the components to age for decades.
