Information about the Wine

The oldest plots of the estate below the château, with their sandy-loamy soils, produce the top red cuvée Les Cadettes. This is also where La Nerthe’s oldest vines, over 85 years old, grow: Grenache Noir, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. After manual harvesting and grape selection, the three varieties are spontaneously fermented together in a large wooden vat. In 2016, the cuvée consisted of 52% Grenache Noir, 38% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre. The maceration lasted three weeks. After malolactic fermentation, part of the wine was aged in barrels, while the rest was aged in new barriques for twelve months.

Colour

Deep ruby red

Nose

Dense, yet surprisingly fresh and elegant, the black fruit aromas with optimally ripe cherries, plums, figs, and a charming hint of morello cherries. The spicy notes from the aging are perfectly blended. Cinnamon, dark chocolate, and black olives are hinted at, followed by graphite, smoke, and leather.

Palate

The freshness is reflected on the palate, with very elegant spice and juicy dark fruit. Beautiful volume with a dense texture, polished, fine-grained tannins, notes of wild herbs, thyme, and mint, as well as dark chocolate. Very balanced and elegant, with an impressively noble tautness underneath, which promises the cuvée great future. A great vintage.
