Description
Product description for Jérôme Galeyrand Marsannay “La Combe du Pré” AOP 2020 Jérôme Galeyrand is one of Burgundy’s newcomers. He comes from the Loire and only found his way to Burgundy in the 1990s. After several years working on the wineries of Alain Burguet and Vincent Geantet, Jérôme acquired his first 0.05-hectare plot in 2001. It has since grown to 5.25 hectares. He owns no cru vineyards, but his vineyards are of the highest quality, especially in terms of the vines’ genetics, which he places particular importance on. Galeyrand’s vineyards have been certified organic since 2019. He practices intensive vineyard work so that he can then work very sparingly in the cellar. His goal is to achieve stylistic refinement and transparency as much as possible. Indeed, he produces wines that reflect his tranquil nature. These are quiet but lastingly impressive, fragrant, seductive red wines and precise, sober, and clear white wines with a high flow.
Wine Information
The Marsannay La Combe du Pré comes from the 4.3-hectare La Combe du Pré vineyard. It faces north, is located at an altitude of 300 meters, is considered one of the coldest in the municipality, and lies below the Combe du Pré forest. Red wine is produced on 3.55 hectares of this lieu-dit. The rest is reserved for rosé. The grapes ripen one week later each year than in Gevrey-Chambertin. Galeyrand owns 0.5 hectares. Vineyard work is organic, partly biodynamic, and labour-intensive. The Pinot Noir was largely destemmed and fermented in tanks. The aging took place for twelve months in used oak barrels (228 l) with a small proportion of new oak (15 to 20%). Jérôme used only indigenous yeasts; there was no fining, no enzymes, and only light filtration (where necessary), as well as no or very small doses of SO2.
Colour
Bright, deep ruby red
Nose
The red Marsannay from the La Combe du Pré vineyard opens with an intense aroma of juicy young cherries, as well as a hint of wood and caramel. The latter, with its slightly warm note, works very well as a counterpoint to the predominantly savoury, fresh aspects of this wine.
Palate
On the palate, the Pinot Noir is juicy, powerful, and cool, with a good portion of fresh, even explosive acidity, ideally proportioned for such a generous, juicy, and elegant vintage. The dark, youthful fruit is juicy, the tannin fine and silky. You can taste a lot of energy and a pleasant robustness alongside the elegant features that the wine possesses.
