Product description for Jérôme Galeyrand Marsannay “Est-Ouest” AOP 2022 Jérôme Galeyrand is a Loire native who changed careers. He came to the region in the 1990s and initially worked for Alain Burguet and Vincent Geantet before purchasing his first 0.05-hectare plot in 2001. Today, he cultivates approximately 5.25 hectares, with a particular focus on vine genetics. Jérôme Galeyrand works without technological or oenological processes, uses no industrial yeast, no glue, no enzymes, and only as much sulphur as necessary. He believes that producing a great wine requires the combination of three essential elements: a great terroir, the DNA of the vine with its remarkable genetic heritage, and a winemaker who respects all of this. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, they are plowed, the harvest is done by hand, and lunar cycles are also taken into account. Galeyrand’s vineyards have been certified organic since 2019.

Nose

The 2022 Est-Ouest Marsannay from Jérôme Galeyrand has a powerful and spicy aroma, underpinned by rich, ripe fruit and slightly bacony and smoky notes. Fully ripe cherries with a subtle stone note, wild raspberries, and lilac mingle with impressions of orange blossom water, a cold fireplace, and fatty bacon.

Palate

With a meaty bite on the palate, this Marsannay is gripping from the first sip, with firm tannins and deep dark fruit as well as a fine spice. The fruit’s concentration is more reminiscent of cherry pulp than fresh fruit. The tannins are delicate and tightly woven, and their powderiness is almost sweet on the tip of the tongue. Carried by the wide-ranging acidity in the background, it floats almost weightlessly over the palate despite its extract and power.
