Description
In 1435, the Guild of the Vignerons was founded in Catania in the shadow of Mount Etna. This association of winegrowers had the aim of teaching the younger generations how to grow vines and make wine on the highest volcano in Europe. Almost six centuries later, Salvo Foti has re-founded I Vigneri. The vigneri master all the work that needs to be done in the vineyards during the year, just as it has always been on Etna: they prune the vines, plough, repair the dry-stone walls, etc. Apart from the strength of their hands, they can only count on the help of their mule Gino. In addition to advising the currently six I Vigneri wineries, Salvo Foti also produces his own wine according to the principles of the Vigneri: tree vines (alberello), indigenous grape varieties, protection of the environment, and respect for people.
