Description
Product description for Huet Le Mont demi-sec 2008
Christina Hilker: On the palate, it presents itself very charmingly with a delicate sweetness. The mineral notes of the nose are even more pronounced here and are pleasantly stimulating. The whole is underlined by fresh acidity and a fine tannin note. The wine has grip and depth. The long finish encounters impressions reminiscent of bitter orange jam and orange zest. A truly exciting white wine that is only just beginning its development and will develop beautifully over the next few years. Be sure to decant and enjoy from large glasses, not too cold.
Info
Unlike the other two sites of Domaine Huet, Le Haut-Lieu and Clos de Bourg, Le Mont has flint as its base. The clayey layer then unites the three sites again. Le Mont faces south and extends over 9 hectares. Flint, also known as silex, is one of the Loire’s unique characteristics and offers outstanding conditions for both Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc.

Nose
WOW! Welcome to Alba, at the end of November. What a phenomenal nose. Pure white truffle. If you give the wine a few minutes, it has the opportunity to release its other aromas. In addition to the prominent mushroom note, which provokes comparisons to Piedmont, nuances of preserved stone fruit emerge. Vegetable notes, such as fennel and parsnip, also come to the fore. As do a hint of cardamom and turmeric.
Palate
Astringent, it makes an unexpectedly lean impression. The colour and nose suggested a more voluptuous type. All the better! The puzzle comes together delicately. The very well-integrated residual sugar of 27 g/l would be estimated significantly lower. Acidity and sweetness flow together in harmony. The resulting mouthfeel is extremely harmonious and appealing. The stony background underscores this sensory spectacle with purity and a cool darkness. Both the sweet stone fruit and the Far Eastern spices find their place again. The truffle, so present at the beginning, has evaporated. In the aftertaste, Le Mont becomes more tropical again, yet still reveals a hint of the white gold from Alba.

Almost 15 years old now, the golden-yellow colored 2008 Vouvray Le Mont Demi-Sec opens with a clear and elegant, wonderfully aromatic and fruity bouquet of ripe and stewed yellow-fleshed stone fruits intermingled with delicate honey and also flinty notes. Full-bodied, rich and also savory on the palate, with a gorgeous concentration of dried apricots and highly delicate acidity, this is a mouth-filling, very elegant, refined and charming, tight and tensioned Le Mont with fine but firm tannins and a seriously saline, crystalline acidity that gives grip and vibration at the same time. The finish is long, tight and aromatic and stimulatingly bitter. The 2008 is neither young nor already really matured but combines the vitality of a young wine with the texture of a matured Chenin. I’d rather keep it for another 10+ years before I’d serve it today. White truffles and straw notes as well as dried apricot, white chocolate and nougat aromas emerge from the empty glass. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in March 2023.

In 2008, a storm at the end of May – the flowering period – flooded the village, and the potential crop was halved. Now 14 years old, it retains a bright lemon color. It is still tangy and starting to develop lime marmalade on toast as well as truffle notes. Le Mont’s racy acidity keeps this wine attentive and taut. It has excellent concentration while being round and focused. While starting to develop, this is still young, vibrant and has years, even decades in it.
