Description

Product description for Huet Cuvée Constance 2009

Color

Deep golden yellow with amber reflections.

Nose

The nose of the 2009 Cuvée Constance from Domaine Huet is full of freshness: black and red currants blend with damsons, Japanese plums, and blackberries. The top note of black tea has red fruit and berry aromas that largely omit the usual aromas of dried fruit. The nose suggests a crisp, red fruity drink with high viscosity.

Palate

On the first sip, the Cuvée Constance is reminiscent of cassis candy, honeycomb, and acacia. With high viscosity and a creamy texture, it is carried by a finely interwoven acidity that lends the wine an impressive freshness despite its opulence and extract sweetness. The slightly tart phenolic character has a very disciplining influence and ensures a quick drink. A sweet wine with captivating lightness and a fine cassis note in the extra-long finish.

At 11% alcohol and 150 grams of residual sugar, the Huet 2009 Vouvray Cuvee Constance – fourth in the past decade, incidentally – offers a striking nose of honey, white raisin, and concentrated herbal and floral essences. Salted caramel, hazelnut cream, marzipan, white raisin, liquid floral perfume, and honey are all leavened with fresh lime, white peach, and grapefruit. Like a refined cocktail of essence-of-Chenin mingled with fresh fruit juices with dashes of salt and chalk, this finishes with ravishing and invigorating persistence and should be worth following for 3 or more decades. _x000D_

Noel Pinguet professes great confidence in his 2009s and pleasure in one of those rare vintages where it was possible to bottle everything from sec through Cuvee Constance. That said, he admitted that achieving a balanced dry wine was challenging, and total production of sec was down from the estate norm; that of demi-sec, surprisingly, even more so (represented by a single bottling); virtually half of the vintage production being moelleux. While acknowledging similarities to 1996, Pinguet finds 2008 most closely resembles 1988. His is one of the few 2008 collections from Vouvray or Montlouis that is clearly less consistent than the corresponding 2009s, which he also finds more interesting._x000D_
