Description
Product description for Henri & Gilles Buisson Santenay rouge “Croix Sorine” AOC 2020 (bio)
Information
The Santenay Croix Sorine 2020 is purchased. Therefore, it is offered by Maison Henri & Gilles Buisson. The purchased grapes, however, are also certified organic according to Ecocert and additionally biodynamic according to Demeter. Crois Sorine borders the 1er Cru La Maladière to the northwest above. Hand-harvested, partial destemming, and spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel cuvée. A mixture of pigeage and remontage, i.e., punching down and overflowing of the pomace cap. Malolactic fermentation takes place spontaneously in the barrels. Aging lasts for ten to twelve months in a mixture of 228-, 350-, and 500-liter barriques and tonneaux, of which no more than 10% are replaced annually. The wine is tasted daily, and the barrels are racked when Frédéric Buisson deems it appropriate. The wine is fined with bentonite and filtered very coarsely. Sulfur is added only during bottling, with a maximum of 40 to 50 mg/l of total sulfite.
Colour
Transparent cherry red
Nose
The Santenay Croix Sorine 2020 is a wine with a delicate and understated aroma. Finesse with sour cherries and sour cherries, ripe red berries, and a hint of blood orange juice are the trump card here. The wood remains discreetly in the background.
Palate
On the palate, the Santenay is silky and elegant in its red fruit, and fine-grained, firm, and at the same time precise in its structure of tannins and acids. The emphasis here is on freshness and pure fruit, which is subtly and unobtrusively showcased by the wood used. Even though it’s a maison, the wine fits seamlessly into the Buissons portfolio.

Wine Advocate
Score: 90
A new cuvée from a south-facing site, the 2020 Santenay Croix Sorine delivers aromas of sweet berries, cherries, licorice and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and charming, it’s a giving, sensual wine that defies stereotypes of Santenay.
Franck and Frédérick Buisson continue to establish themselves as the reference point for Saint-Romain. This 19-hectare domaine has been estate bottling since the late 1940s and farming organically since the 1970s. White grapes are sorted, crushed and pressed for two and a half hours, and musts are barreled down with minimal settling. Reds see a gentle extract. The result is elegantly textural, chiseled wines that can age very well but are also hard to resist young. In ever warmer vintages, these wines seem to go from strength to strength, and everything here comes warmly recommended.
