Product description for Henri & Gilles Buisson Santenay 1er Cru rouge “Clos De La Comme” AOC 2020 (bio)
Information
The Santenay 1er Cru Clos de la Comme 2020 is purchased. Therefore, it is offered by Maison Henri & Gilles Buisson. The purchased grapes are also certified organic according to Ecocert and additionally biodynamic according to Demeter. The Clos de la Comme lies at an altitude of 280 meters. At 21.61 hectares, La Comme is quite large, and the upper part is classified as a Village. The Clos de la Colle is the heart of the vineyard, which borders directly on Chassagne-Montrachet. Hand-harvested, partial destemming, and spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks. A mixture of pigeage and remontage, i.e., punching down and overflowing of the pomace cap. Malolactic fermentation takes place spontaneously in the barrels. The wine is aged for ten to twelve months in a mixture of 228-, 350-, and 500-liter barriques and tonneaux, of which no more than 10% are replaced annually. The wine is tasted daily, and the barrels are racked when Frédéric Buisson deems it appropriate. The wine is fined with bentonite and filtered only very coarsely. Sulphurization only takes place during bottling, with a maximum of 40 to 50 mg/l total sulfite.
Colour
: Quite deep cherry red
Nose
The Santenay 1er Cru Clos de la Comme 2020 is entirely on the finely fruity and sophisticated side of Santenay. No wonder, since the site borders Chassagne-Montrachet. While the wine does indeed have red berry and cherry notes, it is also transparent and clear, floral, and interspersed with subtle spicy notes and only a very faint hint of wood.
Palate
On the palate, the 1er Cru already reveals itself to be enchantingly charming, with its combination of grainy to fine-grained tannins, a light, melting texture, plenty of crisp acidity, and vibrant red and dark fruit, rounded off by a hint of vanilla and cinnamon. Tension quickly builds here. The juice of the pure, clean fruit proves to be the dominant element, ensuring joy and flow. The slightly tart components are pleasant, lending the Santenay plenty of additional character and a noticeable friction.

Wine Advocate
Score: 91
Offering up aromas of cherries, sweet red berries and plums mingled with hints of licorice and spices, the 2020 Santenay 1er Cru Clos de la Comme is medium to full-bodied, with tangy acids, powdery tannins and a penetrating finish. It’s more structured than its communal-level counterpart, though it remains quite refined.
Franck and Frédérick Buisson continue to establish themselves as the reference point for Saint-Romain. This 19-hectare domaine has been estate bottling since the late 1940s and farming organically since the 1970s. White grapes are sorted, crushed and pressed for two and a half hours, and musts are barreled down with minimal settling. Reds see a gentle extract. The result is elegantly textural, chiseled wines that can age very well but are also hard to resist young. In ever warmer vintages, these wines seem to go from strength to strength, and everything here comes warmly recommended.
