Description
Product description for Heinrich Muscat Freyheit 2022 (bio)
Info
Muscat Freyheit is based on 85% Muscat Ottonel and is supplemented with 15% Weissburgunder. The vines are planted on the eastern slopes of the Leitha Mountains on limestone sandstone and mica schist, as well as on the loamy sedimentary soils on the southern slope of the Parndorfer Platte. Spontaneous fermentation and a 13-day maceration period take place in amphorae. This is followed by a gentle pressing process in the basket press and the return to the amphora. Malolactic fermentation takes place there, as does a nine-month maturation on its own lees. The wine is bottled unfiltered and without the addition of sulphur from the amphora. This free spirit was bottled in mid-June 2023 at a slim 12% alcohol by volume.
Colour
Bright lemon yellow with slight cloudiness and bright reflections.
Nose
The 2022 Muscat Freyheit from Heinrich has an incredibly inviting and seductive aroma. The aromas of this grape variety are immediately apparent: nutmeg, a hint of rose, plenty of citrus fruit. But it can do so much more. It shows abundant bergamot and kaffir lime zest. For me, Heinrich represents that fine, reductive nerve that gives the wines so much excitement. Lemon balm, sage, thyme, and mint characterize it. Nettle and bay also join the ranks. It shows bitter orange and grapefruit. Above all, it really makes you want to take the first sip.
Palate
This has real traction on the palate. With a fine, demanding grip, it builds up real pressure. Cool and taut. Abundant citrus aromas meet a very well-integrated acidity structure. Positive bitterness provides a welcome contrast. The nuances of dried herbs are perfectly showcased alongside the tart, fresh Meyer lemon in the finish. Above all, however, it stands for drinking pleasure and mouthfeel.
