Information about the Wine

Serrat de la Plane means “stony plateau” in Catalan. This is the name of the place where the vineyard is located, and the wine produced on this extreme site is accordingly named. Georg Meissner devotes himself to tending his two vineyards, which were originally supposed to be cleared. The old Grenache vineyard is exposed to the wind and stands on dry, stony, weathered gneiss soil. Yields are around 9 hl/ha.

Colour

Garnet red with a slight purple hue

Nose

After two years of doing without, Georg Meissner reintroduced filtration and sulfurization to the 2017 vintage of Serrat de la Plane, albeit only very lightly. However, this is certainly noticeable in the aroma, which overall and also typical of the vintage is much more focused on the dark berry fruit. Blackberries with sweet pits are found here, as are black cherries, along with undergrowth, garrigue, and a hint of pencil shavings. Overall, the wine appears very seductive and ripe.

Palate

This is also confirmed on the palate, where the Grenache is impressively silky smooth, yet also structured and elegant. With all its magnificent fruit and acidity, the wine is juicy to the max, yet powerful, deep, and endowed with grippy tannins. You’d really want to drink this wine as quickly as water, but that would be against good manners.
