Information about the wine

With the Petersbühl, Uwe Lange and Marco Pfliehinger offer a Lemberger from Württemberg (Landwein Rhein-Neckar). This Lemberger comes from an old steep slope between Weinsberg and Erlenbach. Facing south, the vines are located at the cool edge of the forest on the typical Keuper soil, which is very rich in limestone and interspersed with red clay. The soil is very similar to that of Steinsatz Spätburgunder. This wine is made from 100% whole bunch grapes. The grapes are briefly foot-pressed in small wooden vats and fermented on the skins for around three weeks in moderate pigeage. The wine is then pressed in an old basket press. This Landwein is drawn off via the Broquereau using gravity and aged exclusively in used wooden barrels, primarily in barriques and pièces. No yeast, no enzymes, no fining, and no filtration are used, and depending on the vintage, a maximum of 30 mg of sulphur is added.

Colour

Muted garnet red with violet inclusions.

Nose

The nose of the 2020 Petersbühl is red fruity and crystal-clear with ethereal overtones, notes of incense, and rooibos tea. With increasing aeration, the dark aromas of blackberry, cassis, sweet blueberries, and black plum jam become more pronounced. Notes of fine dark chocolate, vanilla, clove, and cardamom lend it a charming touch. Everything is beautifully embedded in wild Mediterranean herbs and smoky minerality.

Palate

Plenty of freshness meets juiciness on the tongue. The bright red fruit with hints of orange combines with invigorating acidity, salty notes, and a fine tannin structure. Peaty, malty, and chocolatey notes emerge, which, combined with the oriental spice notes, create a delightful symbiosis. A red wine that perfectly pairs with diverse and flavourful autumn and winter cuisine. Decant and enjoy slightly chilled from large red wine glasses.
