Description
Product description for Foradori Sgarzon Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2020 (bio)
Christoph Raffelt: The sweet yeast of this still-young Sgarzon is also evident on the palate. Partly red, but primarily dark and silky fruit blends in. The texture is also silky, reminiscent of a layer of burnt clay, so typical of Tinaja aging. Everything appears clear, pure, refined, and juicy with lively acidity and a downright sparkling minerality. The fruit becomes increasingly darker in the finish, but remains crisp and fresh, accompanied by bitter tobacco, which was also present in the aroma. The Campo Rotaliano is a demarcated geographical area and lies between mountain ridges like an indentation in the Adige Valley. Its origins are inextricably linked to the Noce River, which has carried limestone, granite, and porphyry debris for centuries. Within the Campo Rotaliano, various microzones can be distinguished according to their soil composition, which have been given different names by the winemakers. The single vineyard “Sgarzon” covers 2.5 hectares and consists of gravelly and sandy alluvial soils in the Campo Rotaliano. “Sgarzon” literally means “sprout” in the Trentino dialect. The vines there are particularly active and benefit from the cooler climate, which gives the Teroldego its unusual freshness. The wines are fermented spontaneously and aged for eight months in amphorae (tinajas from Villarrobledo, Spain) with skin contact. The average annual production is 12,000 bottles.
Colour
Crimson with violet reflections and a black core.
Nose
The 2020 Sgarzon Teroldego from Elisabetta Foradori wraps you around its finger even at a young age. It openly chats about dark fruits like black cherries, wild plums, and tart fruits like elderberry or cranberry. Added to this are floral notes reminiscent of mallow and vegetal notes, complemented by a hint of dark tobacco.
Palate
On the palate, the Sgarzon, contrary to all the promises of the nose, is disciplined and restrained. Instead of rich fruit flavours, it shines with ascetic extract and a driving pulse on the palate, fueled by the wine’s agile and stimulating acid structure. Ascetically tart with a taut body and a joyfully fruity finish, the glass empties again and again.
