Description
Product description for Foradori Granato Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2019 (bio)
Marian Henß:And then, finally, it reveals its full potential. Powerful and with fine-grained tannins, it knows how to present itself as a Foradori and thrives above all on a cool elegance. The Teroldego is racy and characterized by spicy notes. The dark fruits now appear significantly brighter and not even remotely concentrated. The acidity gives the wine a decent punch and plenty of finesse. The floral, violet notes linger wonderfully in the finish. The foothills of the Alps leave behind a cool-looking wine that scores not for concentration or power, but for its endurance. The Campo Rotaliano is a demarcated geographical area and lies as an indentation of the Adige Valley between two mountain ridges. Its origins are inextricably linked to the Noce River, which has carried limestone, granite, and porphyry debris for centuries. Within the Campo Rotaliano, various microzones can be distinguished according to their soil composition, which have been given different names by the winemakers. The name Granato refers to the pomegranate, which, like grapes, is commonly found in the Mediterranean region. This connection gives rise to the name “Granato,” which draws its particular concentration and density from the stony soils of the Campo Rotaliano. Grown on around four hectares spread across three vineyards, it grows on alluvial soils, gravel, and pebbles alongside old pergolas in Mezzolombardo. Spontaneously fermented in large, open vats, it is then aged for 15 months in tonneau barrels before aging for a further 15 months in the bottle. Annual production averages 20,000 bottles.
Colour
Dark purple with violet reflections and a black core.
Nose
The 2019 Granato from Foradori presents itself on the nose with an expansive, broad stature: dark fruits of blackberries, mulberries, elderberries, and black cherries are complemented by dried plums, black pepper, and juniper berries. Floating and balanced, the aromas shimmer like a constantly changing kaleidoscope. The floral notes typical of Teroldego are initially timid, which is why it is recommended to pour it headfirst into the carafe for optimal aroma development. In its youthful stage, it is best enjoyed the day before—the Granato easily tolerates a bit more aggressive treatment.
Palate
With velvety regalia, it drapes itself plushly across the palate like the crimson train of a benevolent ruler, proclaiming to the discerning drinker its status as the undisputed sovereign of the grape variety. On the palate, it reflects the aromas of the nose, oscillating between dark fruit ecstasy and delicate understatement. It gracefully combines the rich fruit with noble tannins and the aristocratic acidity that accompanies it into a majestically long finish. The Granato benefits from a minimum of five years of bottle aging until it fully reveals its potential.
