Description
Product description for Foradori Granato Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2016 (bio)
Marian Henß:And then it finally reveals its full potential. Powerful and with fine-grained tannins, it nevertheless knows how to present itself as a Foradori and thrives above all on a cool elegance. The Teroldego is racy and characterized by spicy notes. The dark fruits now appear much brighter and not at all concentrated. The acidity gives the wine a good punch and plenty of finesse. The floral, violet notes linger wonderfully in the finish. The foothills of the Alps leave behind a cool-looking wine that scores not for concentration or power, but for its endurance.
Colour
Dark ruby red with a purple rim and opaque core, the wine appears clear and brilliant in the glass.
Nose
In all its subtle clarity, the 2016 Granato from the Crown Prince of Teroldego inevitably makes it clear that, if you really think you should enjoy it at such a young age, you should open and decant it well in advance. A few hours later, you are granted entry. Sweet cherry, blackberry, and blueberry have formed a black fruit pact, but are always accompanied by grapefruit and calamansi, which ensure that they do not drag each other down. The nose is simply delighted by the sheer floating straightforwardness of the fragrance, for all its intensity and density. Brazil nut is coated in a wafer-thin layer of dark chocolate and spiced with ground cardamom seeds and the caramel hint of thick soy sauce. All of that, but in a subtle way.
Palate
On the palate, the 2016 Granato from Emilio Foradori also masters the difficult balancing act of density and intensity on the one hand, and refinement and subtle elegance on the other. Its dark fruit flashes through and coats the mouth. At the same time, the wine refreshes itself with delicate acidity and never drifts into jammy or broad-shouldered texture. Unwaveringly, it’s about length rather than breadth, and sound quality rather than volume. Big!
