Florian and Paola Busch’s Domaine Flo Busch is located in the picturesque village of Montpeyroux in Languedoc-Roussillon. After studying oenology and working as cellar masters at Domaine d’Auphillac, the two set up their own business in 2018. The vineyards are nestled in a verdant valley and currently include the Vermentino (Rolle), Carignan, and Syrah varieties. The vineyards are cultivated according to biodynamic principles. The Pointe du Jour is a blend of Syrah, Carignan, and Grenache. The vines were planted in the late 1970s; the Syrah and Grenache are planted on limestone scree, while the Carignan is planted on blue and yellow marl soils. The wines are hand-harvested, hand-pressed, spontaneously fermented, and after 15 months, bottled in used barriques, unfined and unfiltered with minimal SO2 added.

Dark purple with violet reflections and a black core.

Nose

The 2020 Pointe du Jour from Flo Busch is a clear child of its origins on the nose: dark fruit of black cherries and plums mingle with mulberries, black olives, thyme, and a subtle core note reminiscent of sloe. Deep and dark, it oscillates between fruit and spice, leaving the lips pursed expectantly towards the glass.

Palate

Powerful, dense, and gripping on the first sip, it tapers off immediately on the palate. The tightly woven, tightly knit tannins contour it with tart fruit and neatly part it. Tailor-made and taut, the expansive fruit on the nose reveals itself surprisingly disciplined on the palate, accompanied by ethereally cool top notes of wild thyme and mint. Refreshing acidity provides good grip and accompanies it into a fruity, tart finish.
