Description
Product description for El Sequé (Artadi) El Sequé 2019 (bio)
Marian Henß:This interplay of (fruit) sweetness and acidity continues on the palate. Juicy and fleshy, it offers a full-bodied taste experience. Delicate tannins complement the taut acidity very well. Both elements suggest a high ageing potential. This wine progresses in large sips. The sour cherry clearly dominates the aromatic picture of the finish. Some cedar wood and sage, along with lightly smoky nuances, complement the final moment.
Colour
Bright cherry red, violet reflections
Nose
The Monastrell from Alicante thrives on its intense fragrance. A cornucopia of berry aromas pours out to the discerning connoisseur. Blueberries, elderberries, and raspberries, alongside blackberries, vie for supremacy. The fruit appears slightly lactic and is slightly reminiscent of cherry and cream candy. Liquorice, eucalyptus and a hint of mint add ethereal scents. Clove and black pepper round it off with a spicy finish. It is inviting and generously portioned. Powerfully Mediterranean, yet elegant and cool.
Palate
El Seque wafts across the palate. In waves, it displays power, spice and coolness all at once. The fruit appears serious and mature. Contrary to its nature, the Monastrell shows surprisingly little and only delicate tannin. Totally juicy, it flows in large gulps and loudly calls out “drinking flow”. Gripping It experiences an enormous number of bright moments and displays an unexpected elegance.

Wine Advocate
Score: 93
The 2019 El Sequé was produced with ripe Monastrell grapes (14.7% alcohol) from organically farmed vineyards at 600 meters in altitude in Alicante on sandy and clay soils. The wine matured in 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months. It’s a classical Mediterranean vintage with ripe fruit and notes of aromatic herbs, varietal with some notes of tree bark and an earthy minerality. It’s juicy and has fine tannins, a little more rustic than the 2020. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2020.
