Information about the wine

Adrien Roustan’s hometown is Vacqueras, where he owns the largest area. A selection of the best plots is used for this wine. They are located in the Hautes Garrigues with red clayey gravel and in the counterparts with blue and yellow marl. Each terroir brings its own uniqueness: the garrigues finesse and minerality, the counterparts power and depth. The vineyard was planted in 1950. It is planted with 80% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 5% Carignan, and 5% Mourvèdre. For the wine, however, Roustan uses 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 5% each of Cinsault, Carignan, and Mourvèdre. The grapes for this wine were not destemmed, but crushed and quickly fermented. The wine was aged in concrete vats.

Medium transparent ruby red

Nose

Adrien Roustan’s 2023 Vacqueras brings a very distinctive aroma to the glass. It is reminiscent of rosehip and tomato puree combined with wild strawberries, raspberries, and violet blossoms. Knowing that Roustan does not destemme the grapes, the aroma is immediately understandable, as it stems, among other things, from the interplay of fruit with notes of ripe stalks and stems.

Palate

On the palate, the wine appears even more fragrant than on the nose, which is primarily due to a rose note. There are also influences of licorice. In addition to the silky texture, it is above all the deep minerality of the ancient Grenache vines that makes the wine incredibly balanced and almost lean – despite all the power it undoubtedly possesses. In addition to the acidity, it is the stalks that bring additional freshness to the Vacqueras.
