Information about the wine

Adrien Roustan’s hometown is Vacqueras, where he owns the largest area. This wine is made from a selection of the best plots. They are located in the Hautes Garrigues with red clayey gravel and in the counterparts with blue and yellow marl. Each terroir brings its own originality: the garrigues finesse and minerality, the counterparts power and depth. The vineyard was planted in 1950. It is planted with 80% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 5% Carignan, and 5% Mourvèdre. For the wine, however, Roustan uses 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 5% each of Cinsault, Carignan, and Mourvèdre. The grapes for this wine were not destemmed, but crushed and quickly fermented. The wine was aged in concrete vats.

Colour

Medium ruby red

Nose

Adrien Roustan interprets the grapes from the Vacqueras terroir differently than those from the Gigondas terroir, although the proportions are quite similar. The Vacqueras has a more pronounced Grenache influence, both in its colour and, above all, in its aroma. It smells of ripe raspberries, a hint of fig, and wild strawberries. There are also notes of licorice, herbs de Provence, a touch of earth, and dog rose. It is also clear that Roustan did not destemm the grapes. This brings the scent of stems and stalks into the wine.

Palate

On the palate, the wine is charming. The ancient Grenache vines provide depth, harmony, and minerality. The wine is incredibly balanced and almost lean—in a very positive sense; It glides smoothly across the palate with its fine, ripe, berry-like fruit and exceptionally fine tannins. The acidity also seems ripe, yet lively, and the stems bring an additional freshness to the Vacqueras. It is a wine with freshness and flow, grace and elegance.
