Description
Product description for Diel Riesling Goldloch GG 2022
Wine Information
In the VDP’s GOLDLOCH vineyard, grapes for juicy Rieslings with a distinct yellow component and a hint of flint grow on gravelly, Permian-era primary rock soils. Gentle pressing of the grapes follows fermentation and long aging with natural yeasts in multi-year-old barrels from local oak forests.
Color
Brilliant golden yellow.
Nose
This charming Riesling from the Goldloch region appears somewhat closed when freshly opened, so pour it into a carafe, revealing distinct mineral and smoky aromas, as well as notes of grapefruit, green apple, and mirabelle plum. Wild herbs, verbena, and ginger later emerge.
Palate
On the palate, the 2022 Riesling Goldloch from Schlossgut Diel captivates with its vigour and juiciness, while its invigorating acidity and aromas of Granny Smith, apricot, and citrus are accompanied by a salty and mineral note. A wonderfully stimulating Riesling with excellent development potential and a delightful companion to dishes with fresh sidekicks.

The 2022 Riesling Goldloch GG is from gravelly soils and opens with an intensely fruity and just slightly flinty but saline nose. Elegant and refined on the palate, this is a frisky, saline and stimulating Riesling. Not as sophisticated as Pittermännchen or even Schlossberg, this is a full-bodied but fresh and savory Riesling with lemon-bitters on the elegant and inviting finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Burg Layen in February 2025.

The 2022 Riesling Dorsheimer Goldloch Grosses Gewächs is grown on Permian quartzite and pebble conglomerate. Subtle stone fruit is framed by lemon on the nose. A touch of pear peel adds a riper top note. The palate has an inherent, juicy coolness and a pithy yet soothing texture and concentration. The mouth-watering finish brings out more fruit: juicy green apple, tart Mirabelle and lemon. A gentle herbal savoriness lingers alongside citrus on the finish. (Bone-dry)
