Description

On the northern edge of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, close to Château Beaucastel, Stanislas Wallut owns three distinctive terroirs. In addition to legendary rolling gravel, there are also clay and fine sandy soils. Together, they give the Domaine de Villeneuve Cuvée Vielles Vignes an amazing complexity. Stan’s only Châteauneuf gets its tension and minerality from living soils and healthy, hardy vines, the vast majority of which are 40 to over 100 years old. He has been certified biodynamic since 1998. During the harvest, he himself ensures that only flawless grapes enter the concrete fermentation tanks by gravity. In the underground cellar, he adds absolutely nothing to the resulting wine, extracts with sensitivity, and pays attention to freshness and elegance. Then he ages the wine for about two years. In this way, his cuvée delights from the start, but also after ten years or more. La Griffe, the Côtes du Rhône, is the likeable little brother.
