Product description for Clos du Moulin aux Moines Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Les Folatières” AOC 2022
Info
The Les Folatières vineyard enjoys one of the best reputations in the municipality. It is surrounded by even more prestigious vineyards such as Le Cailleret and Clavoillon. The plot covers 0.2 hectares and was planted in 1954. The soil consists of clay and limestone. Les Folatières lies at an altitude of 240 m above sea level and faces southwest. 2022 is the first vintage from this plot, which they acquired at the beginning of 2022. The first vintage to receive Demeter certification will be in 2025. The methodology is similar to the domaine’s other wines. Selection takes place in the vineyard during the manual harvest. The grapes are pressed slowly to allow the must to undergo a certain degree of oxidation. Slow fermentation with wild yeasts takes place in 400-liter barrels, 10% of which are new barrels. The wine matures for twelve months without stirring the lees or moving the barrels in any way. Bottled without filtration or fining.
Colour
Brilliant lemon yellow with light green accents.
Nose
Its aroma flows from the glass dense and inviting. Ripe yellow fruits, attacked from all sides, are typical of it. A hint of khaki, apricot, peach, and candied quince. It also experiences some earthy, chalky nuances. Wet chalk, a touch of flint, and limestone. I must also attest to a very subtle taste of popcorn. Bready and thus enormously warming are the associations of fine patisserie: biscuit, black bread crust, and a hint of brioche. Its herbal aromas, strongly reminiscent of sage, a touch of mint, chervil, and parsley, have an invigorating effect.
Palate
The first sip slows down considerably. The balance of freshness, power, and fruit is outstanding. Its mineral, salty side creates a film over the mouth. The fruit duels with the pastry aromas for dominance. Above all, however, it thrives on enormous length. The ethereal freshness provides coolness and elegance. Mint is particularly prominent here, stretching it out enormously. It can thus play out grandly for minutes. A fine nutty breeze mingles with the finish.
