Description
Product description for Clos du Moulin aux Moines Auxey-Duresses “Moulin aux Moines” Monopole blanc 2021 (bio)
Marian Henß: On the palate, it seamlessly follows the previous impressions. Clear as an ice stream and so full of cool elegance. Dark attributes and earthy notes make it seem sublime. But above all, it thrives on clarity and precision. The acidity breaks through the subtly bacony structure. It bundles itself into a beam of distinct minerality. Focused like a laser. The mouthfeel is varied and stimulating. You approach the finish in large sips. The nuances of lemon tart, nuts, and caramelized zest come through very well. A hint of baked apple and marzipan also appear in the finish.
Wine Information
The wine comes from an unclassified monopoly vineyard with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay between Corpeau and Puligny-Montrachet. After a selective harvest, the whole bunches were slowly pressed, followed by fermentation with the vineyard’s own yeasts in wooden cuvées and aging for over a year in pièces and tonneaux with a maximum new wood content of 15%. The wine was unfined, unfiltered, and filled with minimal sulfur.
Color
Bright medium straw yellow
Nose
Monopoly vineyards are disproportionately often unclassified and often offer more than one might expect. This is the case with the Bourgogne Blanc “Clos de la Perrière.” The Chardonnay has a complex and seductively citrusy aroma with green, yellow, and orange aspects. Added to this are some green pineapple, lemon zest, dried herbs, and crushed lime, as well as an elegant note of wood and hazelnuts.
Palate
On the palate, the Chardonnay initially appears softer than the nose suggests. The Perrière is sensual and silky, yet fresh and lively, with a distinct minerality, a subtle rock spice, and salinity, but also a touch of phenolic grip, some tobacco, and a hint of extract sweetness. All of this, in addition to its price, makes the Bourgogne Blanc an extremely attractive wine.
