Nose

The name says it all. Violette is true to itself not only in colour, but also in the nose. Pansies and violets are clearly recognizable. The fruit is complemented by juicy mulberries, blackberries, elderberries, and plenty of plums. The fruit is incredibly appealing and balanced. A little clove and juniper, as well as plenty of cinnamon zest, come from the spice cabinet. Dried fruit, in the form of figs and cranberries, follows exactly the same pattern. A subtle note of reduction ensures freshness and clarity. The nose is extremely tempting to reach for the first sip.

Palate

Clau de Nell simply delivers here. The 2020 Violette follows seamlessly on the nose. Full of fruit expression and intensity. It’s as far removed from overripeness or fruit kitsch as Berlin is from a major airport. Its fruit is so perfectly integrated, practically bursting with energy and radiance. A laser sword glides with precision through the intensely fragrant fruits, continually creating new flavours on the palate. Enormously varied and complex, yet at the same time very enjoyable. A fast-flowing drink and quick glasses are guaranteed. This flavour profile is repeated in the finish, supported by plenty of white pepper.
