Rich cherry red with bright, violet reflections

Nose

The intensely fragrant berry fruit is contrasted by an unusually smoky, bacony component. But with all the variety of raspberry, elderberry, cassis, and sour cherry, this change is very welcome. The smoky character is pleasantly dosed and reminiscent of gently smoked bacon or cedarwood. With a little patience, this note quickly disappears in the glass. The curtain rises on the pure expression of the berry fruit. Sweet cherry and sour cherry interact. In the background, one can discreetly perceive light tobacco leaves, a hint of anise, and coriander seeds. From the herb garden, one can detect very faint parsley and a hint of lovage.

Palate

It really packs a punch on the first sip. The acidity is positively prominent and dominates the mouthfeel in a balanced manner. Crisply developed and with plenty of juiciness, the 2020 Bourgogne Rouge “La Taupe” manages to empty the glasses quickly. The emerging fruit, especially abundant sour cherry and raspberry, is immediately countered by the acidity sword. With great finesse and a taut structure, it maneuvers pointedly towards the palate. A very fine tannin is evident. Its cool, stony character is convincing from the outset.
