Description
The name Climens appears for the first time in a document from in a document from the year 1547. Since then, the Château in Barsac has become one of the most important wineries in the
Bordelais. For the quality and the success of its wines, it was classified 1er Cru Classé de Sau-ternes et Barsac in the 1855 classification. The quality lies perhaps in lack of change. After all, it has been owned by just five families. Since 2022 it is the Moitry family, who took over from the famous Lurtons, who had already converted to biodynamics in 2010. Climens means “barren land” in the Celtic language, in this case 30 hectares of vineyards enclosed by a wall. This Clos is characterized by the Barsac sand, rich in clay and iron, which lies on rugged asterial limestone. In addition to the classic sweet wine, since 2017Climens has produced outstanding dry white wines.
